This is a low growing aloe that forms clumps that reach approximately 20cm hight. These are ideal for rockeries or as an indoor plant on a well lit window sill.

In addition to being showy, evergreen and attractive, aloe aristata is also used for its wound healing prowess among other uses. No need for over the counter healing gels and ointments when you have aloe gel to work with.

Planting instructions for:

Aloe aristata - 10cm

Select a location that receives bright, indirect sunlight to partial shade. Ensure the soil is well-draining and sandy, as this succulent prefers arid conditions. Dig a hole that is wide and deep enough to accommodate the root ball of the plant. Place the Aloe aristata in the hole, making sure the base of the plant is level with or slightly above the soil surface. Backfill the hole with a mixture of well-draining soil and sand, gently firming it around the roots. Water the plant thoroughly after planting and then allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Aloe aristata is drought-tolerant and overwatering can cause root rot. Provide occasional deep watering during prolonged dry spells. Avoid planting in areas prone to frost or freezing temperatures. With proper care and occasional fertilization with a balanced succulent fertilizer, Aloe aristata can thrive and provide attractive foliage and showy coral-colored flowers.

Care instructions

Watering

Aloe aristata is a succulent that requires well-draining soil. Water the plant thoroughly and then allow the soil to dry out between waterings. During the active growing season (spring and summer), water when the top inch of soil feels dry.

Reduce watering in the dormant season (fall and winter) to prevent excessive moisture in cooler temperatures.
Avoid overwatering, as it can lead to root rot. Err on the side of underwatering rather than overwatering.

Soil

Aloe aristata thrives in well-draining soil with a sandy or gritty texture. Use a cactus or succulent potting mix, or create a mixture of regular potting soil with sand or perlite to enhance drainage. Ensure the pot or planting area has good drainage to prevent water logging.

Sunlight

Aloe aristata thrives in bright, indirect sunlight to partial shade. Place the plant in a location that receives at least 4 to 6 hours of indirect sunlight per day.

If growing indoors, choose a sunny window or provide artificial grow lights to ensure adequate light exposure.

Prunning

Aloe aristata typically requires minimal pruning. Remove any dead or damaged leaves as they occur. If the plant becomes leggy or top-heavy, you can prune the rosettes back to maintain a more compact shape. Take care when pruning, as the leaves have small spines that can cause injuries.

Fertilser

Aloe aristata is a low-maintenance plant and generally doesn't require frequent fertilization.
