Apricot trees require full sun and well draining but rich soil. Ensure when planting your tree to select a position where the tree will receive full sun and that the planting hole is at least twice the size of the plant bag. Trees are best planted during the winter months when they're dormant. Feed with an organic balanced fertilizer at regular intervals during the growing season.

Planting instructions for:

Apricot - Saldonne 70 litre

To plant Apricot - Saldonne trees, choose a location that receives full sun and has well-drained soil. Dig a hole that is wide and deep enough to accommodate the tree's root system. Loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole and remove any weeds or debris. Place the tree in the hole, making sure the bud union (swollen area where the tree was grafted) is slightly above the soil level. Backfill the hole with a mixture of the excavated soil and organic matter, such as compost, while gently firming the soil around the roots. Water the tree thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. Apply a layer of mulch around the base of the tree to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Regularly water the tree, especially during dry periods, ensuring the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged. Prune the tree during the dormant season to remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches, as well as to shape the tree. Apricot - Saldonne trees require full sun exposure for optimal growth and fruit production. Monitor the tree for common apricot pests and diseases, and take appropriate measures, such as applying organic or chemical controls, if necessary. With proper care, your Apricot - Saldonne tree will flourish and provide you with delicious apricots.

Care instructions

Watering

Provide regular watering, especially during dry periods, to keep the soil evenly moist. Deeply water the tree, ensuring the water reaches the root zone. Avoid over watering, as it can lead to root rot and other issues. Mulch around the base of the tree to help retain moisture and prevent weed growth.

Soil

Apricot - Saldonne trees prefer well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. The soil should have a pH between 6.0 and 7.5. Amend heavy clay or sandy soils with organic matter, such as compost, to improve drainage and fertility.

Sunlight

Apricot - Saldonne trees require full sun exposure to thrive and produce abundant fruit. Choose a planting location that receives at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight per day.

Prunning

Prune the tree during the dormant season, preferably in late winter or early spring. Remove any dead, diseased, or crossing branches. Thin out crowded areas to improve airflow and light penetration. Maintain an open center or modified central leader shape to encourage healthy growth and fruit production.

Fertilser

Apply a balanced fruit tree fertilizer in early spring before new growth begins. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for application rates and timings. Consider using organic fertilizers or compost to provide slow-release nutrients over time.

Pests & Disease

Monitor the tree regularly for common apricot pests such as aphids, mites, and peach twig borers. Implement integrated pest management (IPM) practices, including proper sanitation, cultural controls, and biological controls. Watch for signs of diseases such as brown rot, powdery mildew, or bacterial canker. Proper pruning, adequate airflow, and appropriate fungicide treatments when necessary can help prevent and manage diseases.
