Planting instructions for:

Basil Perennial

To plant Basil Perennial, follow these planting instructions. Choose a sunny location in your garden or a suitable container for growing. Prepare the soil by loosening it and incorporating organic matter such as compost. Basil prefers well-draining soil with a pH of 6 to 7. Dig a hole slightly larger than the root ball and gently place the plant in it. Backfill the hole with soil and lightly press it around the base of the plant. Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. Maintain consistent moisture in the soil, watering when the top inch feels dry. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot. Provide the plant with at least 6-8 hours of sunlight each day for optimum growth. Regularly pinch off the tops of the stems to encourage bushier growth and prevent flowering, as flowering can affect the flavour of the leaves. Monitor for common pests like aphids or spider mites and treat with organic or chemical controls as needed. Harvest the leaves as needed, being careful not to remove more than one-third of the plant at a time. Enjoy the aromatic and flavourful leaves of Basil Perennial in your culinary creations!

Care instructions

Watering

Basil Perennial requires regular watering to keep the soil evenly moist. Water deeply when the top inch of soil feels dry, but avoid overwatering or allowing the plant to sit in waterlogged soil. Aim to water at the base of the plant, avoiding wetting the foliage, as this can make it more susceptible to diseases.

Soil

Plant Basil Perennial in well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. A soil pH range of 6 to 7 is ideal for healthy growth. If the soil is heavy or clayey, amend it with organic matter such as compost to improve drainage.

Sunlight

Basil Perennial thrives in full sun, requiring at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight each day. Ensure it is planted in a location with ample sunlight exposure for optimal growth and flavour development.

Prunning

Regular pruning is beneficial for Basil Perennial to encourage bushier growth and prevent flowering. Pinch off the tops of the stems regularly, starting when the plant has developed a few sets of leaves. This will promote lateral branching and result in a more compact and productive plant.

Fertilser

Basil Perennial doesn't require heavy fertilization, but you can apply a balanced organic fertilizer during the growing season. Follow the package instructions for dosage and application frequency. Avoid over-fertilizing, as it can lead to excessive foliage growth with reduced flavour.

Pests & Disease

Monitor the plant regularly for pests such as aphids, spider mites, or whiteflies. Remove any affected leaves or treat with organic or chemical controls if necessary. Basil Perennial is generally resistant to diseases but be cautious of fungal diseases like powdery mildew. Provide good airflow around the plant and avoid overhead watering to minimize disease risk.
