A perenial form of the popular annual version, this variety forms a small bush approximately 0,5m high and although the leaves have slighlty furry texture compared to the traditional, they are still edible and is a great substitute when the annual variety is out of season. The plant also has aesthetic value with its neat rounded shape and spikes of light pink/white flowers. Water plants regularly.

Basil Perennial

To plant Basil Perennial, follow these planting instructions. Choose a sunny location in your garden or a suitable container for growing. Prepare the soil by loosening it and incorporating organic matter such as compost. Basil prefers well-draining soil with a pH of 6 to 7. Dig a hole slightly larger than the root ball and gently place the plant in it. Backfill the hole with soil and lightly press it around the base of the plant. Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. Maintain consistent moisture in the soil, watering when the top inch feels dry. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot. Provide the plant with at least 6-8 hours of sunlight each day for optimum growth. Regularly pinch off the tops of the stems to encourage bushier growth and prevent flowering, as flowering can affect the flavour of the leaves. Monitor for common pests like aphids or spider mites and treat with organic or chemical controls as needed.
