Planting instructions for:

Capsicum 'Tabasco'

To plant Capsicum 'Tabasco,' follow these instructions: Choose a sunny location in your garden with well-drained soil. Prepare the soil by incorporating organic matter like compost or aged manure to improve its fertility and drainage. Sow the seeds directly into the soil, planting them about 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep and spacing them 12 to 18 inches apart. Water the seeds thoroughly after planting and keep the soil consistently moist but not overly saturated. Provide the plants with full sunlight for at least 6-8 hours per day. As the plants grow, provide support such as stakes or cages to help them stay upright. Fertilize the plants regularly with a balanced fertilizer, following the package instructions. Monitor the plants for pests and diseases, such as aphids or pepper-specific pests, and take appropriate measures to manage them. Harvest the Tabasco peppers when they reach the desired size and colour, usually when they turn bright red, for the best flavour.

Care instructions

Watering

Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water deeply whenever the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Avoid overwatering, as it can lead to root rot.

Soil

Plant the 'Tabasco' peppers in well-drained, fertile soil. It should be rich in organic matter and have a pH level between 6.0 and 7.0. Proper drainage is crucial to prevent waterlogging.

Sunlight

'Tabasco' peppers thrive in full sunlight. Provide them with at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day for optimal growth and fruit production. Insufficient sunlight can result in weak and leggy plants with reduced yield.

Prunning

Although not necessary, pruning can help improve airflow and reduce the risk of diseases. Remove any damaged or diseased foliage and thin out overcrowded branches to allow better light penetration.

Fertilser

Feed the plants with a balanced fertilizer or a slow-release fertilizer formulated for vegetables. Apply the fertilizer according to the package instructions, typically every 4-6 weeks during the growing season. Avoid excessive nitrogen fertilization, as it can promote excessive foliage growth at the expense of fruit production.

Pests & Disease

Regularly inspect the plants for common pests like aphids, spider mites, and pepper weevils. If pests are detected, use organic insecticides or insecticidal soap to control the infestation. Monitor the plants for signs of diseases such as bacterial spot or powdery mildew, and take appropriate action, such as applying fungicides if necessary.
