Planting instructions for:

Carissa macrocarpa - 70lt

To plant and care for Carissa macrocarpa, follow these instructions: Choose a planting location with well-draining soil and full sun to partial shade. Dig a hole that is slightly wider and deeper than the root ball of the plant. Gently remove the plant from its container and place it in the hole, ensuring that the top of the root ball is level with or slightly above the soil surface. Backfill the hole with soil, firming it gently around the roots. Water the plant thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. Provide regular watering during the establishment period, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Once established, Carissa macrocarpa is drought-tolerant and requires less frequent watering. Apply a layer of organic mulch around the base of the plant to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Prune the plant to maintain its desired shape and remove any dead or damaged branches. Carissa macrocarpa is generally resistant to pests and diseases but monitor for any signs of issues and take appropriate action if needed.

Care instructions

Watering

Water the plant regularly, especially during the growing season. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings to prevent overwatering. Once established, it is moderately drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional deep watering.

Soil

Carissa macrocarpa prefers well-draining soil. It can tolerate a range of soil types, including sandy or loamy soil. Ensure the soil is fertile and rich in organic matter for optimal growth.

Sunlight

Carissa macrocarpa thrives in full sun to partial shade. Provide it with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day for optimal growth and flowering. Insufficient sunlight may result in reduced flowering and weaker growth.

Prunning

Prune Carissa macrocarpa to maintain its shape and size. Remove any dead, diseased, or damaged branches as soon as you notice them. Light pruning can be done throughout the year to shape the plant. Avoid heavy pruning, as it may reduce flowering.

Fertilser

Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in spring to promote healthy growth. Follow the instructions on the fertilizer package for application rates. Avoid overfertilization, as it can lead to excessive vegetative growth with fewer flowers.

Pests & Disease

Carissa macrocarpa is generally resistant to pests and diseases. However, it can occasionally be affected by mealybugs, scale insects, or aphids. Monitor the plant regularly and take appropriate action if you notice any pest infestations. Ensure good air circulation around the plant to prevent fungal diseases.
