Planting instructions for:

Carpobrotus edulis

To plant Carpobrotus edulis, commonly known as Ice Plant or Sea Fig, choose a sunny location with well-draining soil. Dig a hole slightly larger than the root ball, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with or slightly above the soil surface. Backfill the hole with soil, firming it gently around the plant. Water the newly planted Carpobrotus edulis thoroughly and then water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry between waterings. Fertilize with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring if needed. Pruning is generally not necessary, but you can trim back any dead or damaged stems. Monitor for pests and diseases and take appropriate action if needed. With proper care, Carpobrotus edulis will thrive and add beauty to your garden or landscape.

Care instructions

Watering

Water the newly planted Carpobrotus edulis thoroughly to settle the soil and help establish the roots. Afterward, water the plant sparingly, as it is drought-tolerant once established. Allow the soil to dry between waterings to avoid overwatering.

Soil

Carpobrotus edulis prefers sandy or loamy soil with good drainage. If your soil is heavy or clayey, improve it by adding organic matter such as compost or well-rotted manure to enhance drainage and fertility.

Sunlight

Carpobrotus edulis thrives in full sun exposure. Place it in a location where it can receive at least six hours of direct sunlight per day.

Prunning

Pruning is generally not necessary for Carpobrotus edulis. However, you can trim back any dead or damaged stems to maintain a tidy appearance. Avoid excessive pruning, as it may reduce flowering.

Fertilser

Carpobrotus edulis is adapted to nutrient-poor conditions and generally does not require regular fertilization. However, you can apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring if the soil is poor in nutrients.

Pests & Disease

Carpobrotus edulis is relatively resistant to pests and diseases. However, it may occasionally encounter issues such as fungal infections or aphid infestations. Monitor the plant regularly and take appropriate action if any problems arise.
